Description of the painting by Mikhail Vrubel "Boating"

Mikhail Alexandrovich Vrubel, a prominent artist, an artist of the nineteenth century worked in all possible genres of fine art, but the female portraits created by him were especially famous. Canvases dedicated to famous biblical subjects, such as, “Walking on the Waters,” were highly appreciated.

Using the full power of his skill, Mikhail Alexandrovich Vrubel painted an extraordinary watercolor about Christ walking on the surface of the water. The painting is extremely rich in its color palette of shades of blue. The technique of impressionism - small dotted strokes - was used by Vrubel when writing this picture. A complete sense of the greatness that is happening is achieved largely due to the saturation of color. Moving from dark, almost black, saturated color shades to lighter, blue and white tones, Vrubel creates a unique circular composition of the picture.

Sailors who went into the open sea in stormy weather saw something amazing. The foreground of the painting is filled with the exposed surface of the rocky shore. The sailors' boat, driven by a gusty wind, strives to break against a formidable stone breg. Suddenly, the sky is lit up, formidable clouds stretching along both fronts diverge and the figure of a divine savior becomes visible on the horizon. An alarming, formidable firmament does not bode well for sailors, but in an instant they have hope. Merging with the tones of the sky itself, the Savior approaches them, walking along the surface of the water. The faces of the sailors are directed towards the light, they hopefully cast their eyes on the horizon. The extraordinary airiness and fullness of the images of the sky, water, and even heavy rocks is observed thanks to the artistic skill of Vrubel.
